A Whimsical Cherry Blossom Wedding

Of all the weddings I’ve designed, this will likely be my mom’s favorite. She went with her sister to DC around the time of the Cherry Blossom Festival and has been in love with all things cherry blossom ever since.

This wedding is luxurious, romantic, and whimsical. Depending on where you live, I would host this wedding at the end of April or the start of May. In many places, this time of year is still too cool to have an outdoor ceremony or reception (or too rainy) but the outdoors can still be a backdrop for this theme.

Colors

If pink is not your main color for this wedding what are you doing? I envision pale or baby pink with pops of hot pink and darker shades. Even a mauve would be lovely. Pink can be paired with white and pops of spring green, gold, or rose gold.

Décor

Cherry blossoms should obviously be the main décor for a cherry blossom wedding. Otherwise, it’s just a pink color scheme. Sprigs, full branches, cherry trees can add height and whimsy.

Since this is more of an opulent theme, full table settings add to the décor and fullness at the table. Centerpieces can be surrounded with tapered candles, flower petals, and lower flower arrangements and vases.

What the Main Two Wear

There are so many options for bridal wear- billowy and voluminous, 3D floral appliques, floral print, white, blush, or even a darker pink. In this case, the main accessory should be the bouquet but cherry blossom hair combs, earrings, or pink shoes can add to the look.

To go with the classic look of this wedding, I suggest dark blue, navy, or black for the groom. A pocket square or cherry blossom boutonniere can add a pop of pink.

Wedding Party

As always, the wedding party should go with the color palette. If the bride wears white, I would have the bridesmaids wear pink or spring green. If the bride wears pink, I would pick white, cream, or gold for the bridesmaids.

Whatever color is picked for the groom should continue on to the groomsmen. I wouldn’t do a mismatched color scheme here.

My favorite inspiration for the flower girls is where there are multiple and they are in varying shades of pink. A ring bearer could match the groom and groomsmen too.

I would suggest a semi-formal or formal dress code for guests.

Food

I always love a good buffet but I would opt for a plated meal to match the look of the rest of this theme. A grand, tiered cake will act as decoration and will fit the vibe.

Early spring is one of my favorite times of year. Celebrating a wedding would only add to the magic. Would you base a wedding off of such a fleeting flower?
