Designing a Springy Gingham Wedding

I'm kind of obsessed with this wedding. It's one of the themes I would consider for my own. With this theme, I think it's really fun to lean into southern trends and a springy/summery picnic vibe! It's also, in my opinion, super easy to incorporate gingham into your big day in order to make a statement.

Colors

When I think of gingham, the light blue motif is the first to come to mind. There are so many more options too- true blue, navy, red, black, and I even have a springy green, some orange, and a pastel pink shown on the board below.

I think any of the blue ginghams can be mixed and matched together and still look cohesive. I love some pops of pink or yellow added in, too.

Red and blue pairs to make a more Americana look. (For more of this see my 4th of July post).

Green gingham and variations of pink make a garden-inspired springy look.

Décor

Like I mentioned, a little gingham can go a long way! A fully gingham tablecloth is super fun, but you can also achieve the look with napkins, a table runner, chargers, or ribbons wrapped around centerpieces. Personally, I don't think you can really go wrong with any flower type or color, but some of my favorite ideas are magnolia branches, white hydrangeas, or pink and peach roses. Magnolias and hydrangeas feel especially southern.

Also- Mason jars! I know, I know, they're a cliché at this point. But they're practical for centerpieces or drinks and they help with that southern vibe.

What the Main Two Wear

Brides and grooms can go as subtle or as bold as they like. Gingham ties, pocket squares, socks, shoes, and shirts add a nice nod to the theme. If you're not afraid of print and color, why not go with a fully gingham suit or full length gown?

Wedding Party

The wedding party looks depend heavily on the choices for the main two. If the bride chooses a fully gingham gown, I would opt for a solid color for bridesmaids dresses. Conversely, if the bride chooses a more traditional gown, bridesmaids could wear gingham dresses. For the groom and groomsmen I think it would look nice to mix colors. For example, the groom could wear a navy suit with a light blue gingham tie and the groomsmen could wear black or light blue suits. If the groom opts for no blazer but instead wears a gingham shirt, groomsmen could wear solid shirts of a different color from the palette. The flower girl can wear a gingham dress with white accessories and the ring bearer can wear white with a gingham bowtie.

Truth be told, even if the wedding party wears solid colors but have gingham accessories (shoes, socks, hair bows, bowties, or a ribbon around a basket or bouquet), the theme would still translate.

Food

I envision this theme to take place in the spring or summer, outside, and during the day. For that reason, I feel like picnic food is the perfect thing to draw inspiration from. I imagine fruit, sweet tea and lemonade, pies, and maybe even backyard BBQ type food!

So, what do you think? Does too much gingham make your eyes hurt or are you totally down for this classic print?
